Photo TR: 2011 York Fair - September 9 & 12
I visited the annual York Fair, held at the York Expo Center (in York, Pennsylvania) every September. New for 2011 was a new fair layout to better accommodate crowd flow. Also new was the ride supplier, Deggellar Attractions, who provided even more rides on an expanded midway.
Below are just some of the many highlights showcasing the sights and sounds of the 2011 Fair.
A view looking from the Ferris Wheel down the main midway. The fair switched over from Reithoffer Shows to Deggellar Attractions in 2011.
The sun sets over the giant Ferris Wheel.
The Fireball
One of two carousels that were offered for 2011. This is the main carousel located on the main midway. There was also a smaller carousel in the kiddie rides area.
Bumper Cars
One of the many games stands located throughout the fairgrounds.
One of two slides that were available. This one was located on the main midway.
This un-named Pinfari roller coaster was one of three roller coasters that were set up for the 2011 York Fair.
The Whacky Worm, the other roller coaster that is located on the main midway.
The Windsurfer is a portable model of Hershey's Frontier Flyers.
Tilt-A-Whirl
A portable Wisdom Tornado ride.
X-treme is a portable pendulum ride, similar to the Claw at Hershey. I'm not sure what model this is though.
A portable Wave Swinger ride.
The 2011 Fair offered both a Musik Express and Himalaya rides.
No fair or carnival is complete without a Zipper ride and the York Fair is no exception!
The Viper, some unique looking flat ride that I've never seen before until the fair.
I proudly dedicate this to Brandon - Ice Cream & "Waffles"!
The smaller Century Wheel which was set up in the Kiddie Kingdom kiddie rides area.
These were the Fun Slides that were set up over in the kiddie rides area - similar to Hershey's Merry Derry Dip Fun Slides.
The kiddie roller coaster, the third in the line up of three coasters offered.
The Crazy Bus - I remember riding this ride as a kid.
Kiddie Tea Cups
The kiddie train ride, similar to the defunct Tiny Tracks ride at Hershey.
The kiddie carousel set up in the kiddie rides area.
Old Main - the building that houses all the arts, crafts and photography exhibits.
I usually enter a drawing of the fair every year...this is my 2011 York Fair drawing, consisting of mainly colored pencil. As you can see it took first prize.
Some of the Poultry exhibits.
Some of the Livestock exhibits. The last pic shows a momma sheep with her baby who was just born a day or two before the pic was taken - part of the live Animal Birthing Center, available to fair guests.
The Giant Pumpkin display in Horticultural Hall.
More fruits & vegetables on display in Horticultural Hall.
Children are encouraged to decorate their own pumpkins and enter them into the fair's Pumpkin Extravaganza. As you can see, there are many pumpkins decorated to look like all sorts of people and things.
For the past three fairs, the Royal Hanneford Circus has come in and performed acts.
Some acts come back from year to year, while others are new to keep things fresh.
One of my favorite acts that returned for 2011 - the dogs! I absolutely love them!
For the second year in a row, the miniature circus was displayed adjacent to the Royal Hanneford Circus.
And I leave you with some night photos of America's Oldest Fair. See you in 2012!
