2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
With no coaster planned for 2012, it's pretty certain we will see a new coaster in 2013 (2014 at the latest). What do you think the next coaster for CP will be?
With CF building the first 300 foot B&M at CW, and the fact chains like CF typically do multi coaster deals with manufacturers, I think a 300 foot B&M wing rider could be a strong contender as their next coaster.
When you consider the park's existing line-up that is predominantly non-loopers, as well as the fact they don't have a floorless or a flyer, a world record wing rider is my guess.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
I do think a Wingrider could be possible, just not a 300-foot one. They already have Millennium Force and really wouldn't need another 300-foot coaster to go along with it. I'd say if they were to get one, I could see it being anywhere between the 200 and 300 foot range. That's my guess.
I also think they could use a nice GCI woodie as well. Hasn't there been rumors recently circulating that if they were to get one that it could be put in the front of the park near where Ocean Motion was recently moved to? Just another idea to throw around.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
While adding some wood to the point would be very welcome. Given Mean Streak, I would think they would fix that ride first before opening another woodie, cause that would kill MS ridership. Personally, I'd prefer an Intamin woodie.
Regarding another 300 foot coaster, it would certainly be the worlds tallest looping coaster and garner a ton of other world records, while I think having a looping giga would compliment MF.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
I would love Cedar Point to get an Intamin Pre-Fab Wooden Coaster. At Coaster Mania 2011 Mr. Richard Kinzel 'hinted' that he rode El Toro at Great Adventure and loved it. SO maybe they will get one?!?! - But sadly for 2013 I don't think this will be true
Personally, I love Intamin but Cedar Point might not go back with them because they had a lot of problems with there products.
They had problems with:
1) 2004 - (I think) Top Thrill Dragster
2) 2007 - Maverick (and its Heartline Roll)
3) 2010 - Shoot The Rapids
Also, Most sites do have rumored for 2013 at CP is a B&M Coaster. But no one knows what type of B&M yet...

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
Glad to hear Kinzel loved ET in 2011, since I thought previously he said he would never get one. I agree CP has had more than a few issues with Intamin (you forgot the Wicked Twister issues ), and agree they may be migrating to B&M given Leviathan and the new Wing-Rider concept, which I think CP desperately could use.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
I really think CP will be installing the Worlds First B&M 4d coaster and if it's not a 4d then it will be B&Ms biggest baddest Wingrider. Either of these coasters would give CP something it needs, and that is an up to date sit down floorless looper. Knowing CP they would probably want a hyper wingrider, could you imagine X-flights drop but 200 feet tall lol.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
^ That would be great! A 4D Wing rider Coaster would be a great addition to the park! And Cedar Point is lacking a good B&M Coaster. They only have Mantis and Raptor.
Also There last Coaster was 2007's Maverick, which is a 6 year gap between getting New Coasters at CP; so whatever Cedar Point has down there sleeves for 2013 will be Amazing!

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
Mantis was a GREAT coaster when it first opened and when the drop trim is turned off. When it's on, the ride is a major disappointment.

Agree. Mantis is a good coaster but it is a rough ride. Hopefully they can get new or remastered trains to improve the ride.
Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
Okay....I hate (not really ) to break up the height love, but it won't happen anytime soon. The Wing train design, as weol as 4D possibilities in general, have issues with pertaining to speed. We all know the issues that X had, as well most of you should know of Bacos as well. Mainly being major Vibration which turns an amazing ride to crap. Raptor (Gardaland) has a slight issue, but it isnt unbearable (from what I have heard at least). So any hope of seeing a Wing Coaster with a DROP height of being over 150 (and that is pushing it) will be determined by the 3 sisters opening up this season (The Swarm, Wild Eagle and X-Flight) and the feedback from them.
As to the rumors of it being a Beemer, I'm personally not believing it to be true, and I am a B&M fanboy. I actually see a taller and more well designed Zac Spin replacing Wildcat after its series of accidents as of late. Now, to jump onto the wooden coaster side of this. Gravity Groups Timberliners would actually be a better choice for CP, than a MF GCI, as the sheer tightness of the layout is perfect for an already semi-cramped park.
As for Mean Streak, as a member of Thrillnetwork, I had the oppurtunity to go up in October with 2 other members (whose names i wont divuldge for personal reasons) and got to do a Behind the Scenes tour for their Halloweekends. One thing I asked about was Mean Streak as we had gone after MS was closed for the season. I got told that they had extended the first drop, did major retracking work and I believe some minor reprofiling in the trouble areas that caused the unnecessary roughness.

That's great if they were doing some major retracking work to Mean Streak. It shows that they definitely care about the ride. Whatever new coaster they decide to get next, I really hope it's a wooden coaster. A GCI with Millennium Flyers would really do wonders for them.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
See, I dont think it would. Adding in another wooden coaster means it would have to set itself apart from the Blue Streak and Mean Streak. All GCI has to do is evaluate Mean and approve it for their MF trains, and you have the flyers in the park. Thats why Id put my money on it being a GG woodie because of the new Timberliner train. Putting in a very tight, compact, overlapping wooden coaster with tight turns is something that would draw a crowd. It wouldnt be similar to what they already have ridden, nor would it be similar to what they have seen at other parks.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
I just think if CP adds a new woodie, that would kill the ridership on MS and counter productive. On a positive side, a new woodie would free up the existing MS space.

I didn't think GCI installed Millennium Flyers on already existing coasters that weren't design or constructed by their company. That's news to me lol.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
^^ Nothing is going to kill that giants hold on its ground. Not even fire!
^ Yes, they do. On their website, the ride has to be of the utmost quality to be allowed the right to use Millennium Flyers. In short, the ride canNOT damage GCIs reputation.
Another option (and one that has been HIGHLY discussed elsewhere) is the Rocky Mountain Groups Iron Horse treatment. It is known the Kinzel was talking to them before he retired, but as to what specific ride (Mean Streak and Son of Beast were the big two being guessed at) they were talking about, we know not (darn!). Look at what it did for New Texas Giant. Think...just IMAGINE what could be done with Mean Streak. The extending of the first drop gets me thinking they could be preparing her for that very same treatment. If true, that is a new ride for 2013, without actually having to worry about taking up new land or anything! Plus, the ZacSpin could replace Wildcat as well and CP would become a better place for it!

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
Personally, I do not think Cedar Point will take down a Coaster in the foreseeable future. In 2012 they will be tie with SFMM (with 17 COasters) and if they take down a Coaster, then add another, they will still be at 17. I really hope CP does not take anything down and thy get to 18 Coasters.
And I would love to see another woodie, but not have Mean Streak taken down. Plus after all the work that they did (and are doing) to MS, they should not take it down.
I also rode The New Texas Giant, and I fell in love with the ride, but I don't think CP will get Rocky Mountain and refurbish Mean Streak. (Even tough it will be AWESOME! )
And Screamscape said a few months ago that Rocky Mountain will be refurbishing/making at least 2 Coasters in 2013, so maybe CP will get a brand new Rocky Mountain Hybrid Coaster?????

Thanks for sharing. I hadn't seen that but have felt ever since Levi was announced CF and CP were going to start working with B&M vs Intamin. It was pretty surprising to see a 300 ft Beemer for CW and suspect it won't be their last.

Hmm. A space theme. I wonder if that means like a science(true) or fiction with aliens or something.

I was wondering the same thing as well, since the link I provided suggested their new coaster would be placed in the front of the park, which (on one side) already has a space theme...

I Dont think CP would loose another Coaster. But I do believe there 2012 3 project will definitely have a space themeing. The rumors say it will be around the Disaster Transporter/Wiked Twister/Raptor area.
I would love to see a GCI, or Intamin wood Coaster on the water. That will be amazing.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
Well the new Shoot the Rapids could be considered close to a water coaster. A GCI would definitely do wonders for their next woodie. They really could use another one and along with MS having a refurb, they'd have three great woodies to pick from.

With the recent large trend of Wing Coasters, I can't help but wonder will CP follow their trend of breaking records with a 300 foot Wing Coaster(or Rider)

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
I agree, the way the supports are and everything. But it's more of a modern Tidal Force at Hersheypark vs a coaster, as far as ride experience goes.
2013 - 2014 What may be to come!
VERY huge Screamscape update for 2013 - 2014!
2013:
Now for 2014:
Pretty Amazing, right?!
2013:
2013 - New Coaster - Rumor - (2/10/12) Still more rumors trickling in about the possible 2013 coaster plans in the works for The Point. Right now the good money bets are still on it being a B&M coaster once again, but this leads to a question about what style? While I think the park could certainly use a good Floorless mega-looper, there is also hope for a mega Floorless Dive Machine concept.
The rumor mill suggests that management (or at least Kinzel’s old management) did not care for the B&M Flyers. The park already has a plentiful supply of launched coaster concepts, so this really leaves only the new Wing Coaster idea as an alternate possibility, but with SFGAm building one in greater market, I have a feeling Cedar Point isn’t ready to jump on that bandwagon yet either.
Now for 2014:
2014 - Disaster Transport 2.0 - Rumor - (2/10/12) A very interesting rumor has come in regarding a possible upgrade proposal being worked on for Disaster Transport in the future. Ouimet did state that the company wanted to focus on having more attractions that families can enjoy together for years to come. Disaster Transport, always rumored to be possibly removed for being so tame, is actually the closest thing Cedar Point has to a Space Mountain style experience. The huge expense of enclosing the ride was done years ago, so there may be a plan to really renovate or completely rethemed the ride with modern effects, making it a well rounded enjoyable family coaster for everyone to enjoy. If you need a proof of concept, just look at how much more popular Disneyland’s Space Mountain became after they upgraded the effects and added on-board audio.
If true, look for this to possibly happen as early as 2014.
Pretty Amazing, right?!

Like what's been mentioned in the past, they are due for another wooden coaster. If they remodel Mean Steak (which I think has or is already happening) plus build a GCI, they would have a great collection of wooden coasters.

They should give Mean Streak special treatment (or the NTAG treatment, even if it's Cedar Fair), or as you said a new GCI... If it were a new wooden coaster I'd like to see something around the layout of GhostRider... but who knows what CP will bring in the future...

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
I'd love to see something - anything - done with Mean Streak. It is such an impressive structure, and just wish it delivered a decent ride experience. Regarding their next coaster, I agree with Screamscape that with Six Flags being so close, if they went that route, it would certainly have to be significantly different, which is why I thought a 300 footer would fit that bill. I just found it interesting that after all the years of people saying B&M would "never" build a giga, they finally did at a CF park, which prompted me to ask why? Why didn't CW go with Intamin, like CP and KD did? Could B&M have gotten enough of a push from CF with CP and Knotts wanting something in the giga range to make them finally do the project? I know all of the problems that CF has had with Intamin rides, so maybe they just decided to move on to B&M, but the fact remains, B&M has been very hesitant to move into Gigas, and I'm thrilled they did.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
Also there are a lot less problems with BM Coasters then Intmin. Most Intamin Coasters break down and have signifigant problems but BM Coasters barley and never have problems.
Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
While there is no denying that Intamin does have more problems in the beginning, they seem to work them all out over time. Ongoing, I do agree B&M does have a slight edge with reliability.
With all that said LFCoasterZombie, I think your top 10 coaster list, which has 7 Intamin rides speaks volumes for the ride experience Intamin delivers. I'll take some down time if it means I can ride something unique and truly thrilling.

Anything is possible, but my personal guess, which is only that, would say "yes." It makes sense given their coaster line-up and their past record of building world record breaking ride concepts during their 2nd or 3rd year of introduction. Hope so anyway.

Check out what was on Screamcape today. http://screamscape.com/html/cedar_point.htm
The rumor is CP will get 2 coasters in 2013 - a big one and a kiddie coaster. I believe this will happen, so they will be one coaster a head of Magic mtn.
I origionally thought CP would get a kiddie coaster in 2011 or 2012, but 2013 might be the year!

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
I agree as well that CP getting 2 coasters in 2013 makes sense, and always thought those saying the coaster wars were over were wrong. A park like CP that has built their reputation and entire marketing program (America's Roller Coast) on breaking coaster records, won't let any park take their spotlight for any appreciable amount of time.

I think it's safe to say CP building a coaster for 2013:
While speaking to the Erie County Chamber of Commerce, Cedar Fair CEO Matt Ouimet said Cedar Point's 2013 capital expenditures will total $25 million. He also made references to opening up the view of the beach.

Re: 2013 Coaster Prediction for CP
Yes, I agree Chris. Sounds like it's going to be on or around the beach. Maybe like Magnum. I do think it will be a wing rider and suspect for $25 million, it will break some world records like Raptor did when B&M launched the inverts.
