Kennywood announces The Black Widow for 2012
Not sure how I feel about this new ride given they got rid of their drop tower to make room for it. I love drop towers, while this ride does look thrilling, to me, it's just a big pirate ship ride (imo).

Anyone have a construction update or additional thoughts?

Re: Kennywood announces The Black Widow for 2012
I think it was a smart move on Kennywoods part, simply because Pit Fall was beginning to have some major malfunctions. Plus, since they are moving up in the world of Amusement Parks, adding in a tall, high capacity ride will help them in the long run.
Now if they could only give me back my Steel Phantom and give some much needed love to Exterminators cars, Id move into the park!

I am also happy that Kennywood is getting a Zamperla Giant Discovery instead of a Huss Giant Frisbee. There are too many Huss GF and not a lot of Zamperla GD.
Re: Kennywood announces The Black Widow for 2012
I think Huss has been slow in maintaining rides. Zamperla seems more eager to get out on the marketplace. This is a nice score for them. I like the Huss Frisbee and Giant Frisbee but I don't mind if a competitor throws its name in the hat.
I had a generation one Freefall at SFGADV. I never really cared for the second gen that Pittfall was. I won't miss it.

I drive by the park on a daily basis and have been keeping an eye on it. I saw a flurry of activity around it a few weeks ago, but not much since. I'll keep you guys posted on updates.

I agree with what Tom said and we really do appreciate everyone who has been sending us in pics of updates from parks all over the U.S. Your help is very much appreciated by all of us!

Re: Kennywood announces The Black Widow for 2012
HUSS Giant Frisbees do have maintenance problems and HUSS isn't good with rides. I mean, hasn't anyone heard about the Timber Tower controversy? Zamperla is much more efficient and a better company. Pitt Fall was having its problems, but I hope that a new Pitt Fall could comeback to Kennywood, as the traditional feel of the park is being lost. It all started with Garfield's Nightmare...

I peek over there every day and have not seen any action I can catch in a 5 second glimpse through the trees. Zamperla rides are not reliable either. Cedar Fair actually got a refund for Meteor because major parts broke on it on several different occasions.
