I don't think skyrush can have the same " please keep your arms and legs inside the car/train/vehicle (whatever it uses) at all times." recording as most other rides. It wouldn't apply much.

Oh man! That video is SO sweet! Talk about Air Time! And that was with the train literally crawling over the top of the lifthill. Wait til it powers over the top at 18 MPH.....Momentum, or what?!? The sounds of stuff falling off the trains or dummies or whatever....kinda scary, but all kinds of Awesome too! Testing rocks! Do we know how many test runs they did today in total?

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
My friend will either be going today or tomorrow to get a video of skyrush testing. I don't know if he went today and tomorrow I will be gone but I'll try to post the video. Can't wait to see ALT video. When I watched the one video I was like wow this is going to be awesome especially the airtime on this beast! I mean did u see it go over the first hill it went over it a lot faster then what I thought! It went faster then what I thought it would be on the first test run. Can't wait to see skyrush going over the lift at full speed! I'm so excited!

Yes yes yes this is how a hyper coaster is suppose to carry speed even on it's first test runs, compared to Shambhala even after over a week of testing it's still running like a complete joke for a hyper coaster. Then when Hershey cranks Skyrush up to it's design speed for the lift hill this thing is going to be an utter beast!!!

I'm calling it right now, I think Skyrush is gonna be #1!

Wow!!!! Thats an amazing video!! Those airtime hills are going to have some major ejector air. The only thing that might hold this back in coaster polls would be the length (its kinda short as far as hyper coasters go)- but other than that Skyrush seems absolutely amazing and I can't wait to ride it.

Yes, it is a GREAT video and can't thank you enough for posting it. I do think once this bad boy gets up to full speed, the airtime is going to be sick (can't wait to see more when you have them).
I understand the point about ride duration, but think even going up the lift will be thrilling, so I continue to feel it will be a top 10 in the world.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
Actually, adding 17mph at the top of the lift will add less than 2mph to the speed at the bottom of the first hill. The kinetic energy of the train at 18mph is roughly 5% of the kinetic energy at 75mph, so the speed at the top of the lift doesn't have as much effect as you would think. The temperature of the grease in the wheel bearings over the course of the season will have a greater effect on the speed. So what we are seeing now is pretty close to what we will get when the ride opens.
It is great to see SkyRush finally testing. I hope Intamin doesn't run into any issues that require a lot of time to resolve. The course is pretty simple, so the only possible snafu would be the new trains. I can't wait to try them out.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
Starting at 18mph, and falling 200 feet without any friction or air resistance, you would end up at 79.4mph - an unachievable maximum in the real world. Intamin advertises a real world speed of 75mph for Skyrush, just like Storm Runner.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
^yeah I just calculated that, your right. thanks for correcting me
although I calculated that the added 18 mph would add roughly 4.2 mph, although that still not a huge difference. not that it matters, because this thing is already flying

It just needs to stay under 88mph, otherwise we could be sent back to 1955.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
No, the theoretical limit is only 79.4mph, and that would be for a train on a completely frictionless track falling through a vacuum so that there was no air to slow the train down. So in the real world it would never reach anything close to that.
The faster something travels, the more significant air resistance is, so I would think that as un-aerodynamic as the train is, that will be the major limiting factor to overall top speed. Aerodynamics (and friction for that matter in a system like this) is a very complex science even for simple shapes, so one could only take an educated (or uneducated) guess as to what the top speed will be without actual testing. I think when HersheyPark advertises "Maximum Speed: 75mph" that they are making a pretty realistic guess. I wouldn't be surprised that on a cold damp day, the top speed would be closer to 70.

Im just so PUMPED about skyrush right now.... Looking at the vid makes me proud to say ima be one of the first people to ride it. It looks so awesome since its yellow, While most of the rollercoasters in the world are white or black or red, (those are pretty common colors for coasters) yellow pops out and is very noticable.

Yes the ride is on the short side, but the kick a$$ness of this coaster is going to more then make up for the length imo.

I doubt it from what Brandon posted on face pretty much every ride in the park is closed b/c of a storm so I doubt they'd be testing in those conditions.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
Great follow-up Dwainw, so let me ask a follow-up if you don't mind. Given the maximum speed will be around 75 MPH, what do you think the final speed of the train will be when it hits the brakes?
I do agree the ride time is a bit short at around 60 seconds, but with a17 mph lift, Skyrush will be 60 seconds of pure thrills - which is actually 4 times longer than TTD.
