What new coaster from a Coaster Company do you want to see SFMM get in 2013 - 2014?
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
Same here with the Full Throttle part, will they possibly retheme High Sierra Territory?

^^^^I doubt it because that is such a big part of the park and would upset many to change that. The new coaster already has big expectations since Log Jammer removal was a heartbreaker

Check out what Screamscape posted. : http://screamscape.com/html/six_flags_magic_mountain.htm
Looks like SFMM posted there 2013 Coaster - Full Throttle... Interesting... I kinda like it... Does not seem to have a Superhero theme to it!

Hmmm, interesting. Will be cool to continue to follow the latest developments regarding this situation.

I'm ehh for a new coaster, I was hoping 2012/2013 would be the years for flats!
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
I have to laugh at LaTimes considering that they love to release their press releases too early and before their deadline. In the end they are only hurting their credibility and trustworthiness with the parks.
If they do plan on using the Metro tunnel, they are either going to need to drill a second tunnel or go over the mountain for the return track. Either way, rumor has it that it's supposed to be a long coaster. My money is on Premier right now, but considering I've never seen them to a double launched coaster, Intamin might be possible as well.

B&M is out of the picture from what I've heard, so I am leaning most towards Premier. If they do use the tunnel I also think they would need another tunnel because I couldn't see them going over the mountain.
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
Lets not *fully* believe that what the mechanic said is true, it could all be a tactic to get people off the path of what the ride really is. Just a thought. I don't think we should be 100% sealed on what it is, yet.
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
I agree with Brandon, listening to a Mechanic is like listening to The Dippin' Dot's Guy...
A source (more like a friend of mines) made an interesting statement the other day, he said what if LJ's old station won't be used at all, and this new coaster could be placed in DeJa Vu's old spot, and twist and turn over LJ's old spot and finally making a return to the station... If this is so, The name "Full Throttle" would be a perfect themeing for The Movie District...

According to the park map, I don't think Deja Vu was in the Movie District. Plus isn't it pretty far away from Log Jammer's spot?

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
I agree with Brandon, hopefully this is a tactic to throw the blood hounds off the real scent.
I do believe though the coaster will hop over the mountain and it will be an Intamin. For one it's cheaper to just hop over the mountain for the outbound or return then it is to dig out another tunnel through the mountain.
Intamin is known for making lifthills with nothing more then two support towers and camel backs with the entire arch unsupported just look at Skyrush. So either one of these Intamin lifthill or camel back would be perfect if you wanted to cross a mountain and didn't want supports disturbing the paths or rides up on that mountain.
I also just find it hard to believe SFMM would contact Intamin the company that has created the most #1 coasters on the planet, to do three small projects like Superman redo, GL, and Lex Luther. Yet give their biggest coaster project in their history to a manufacturer that's more known for building shuttle coasters, it just doesn't make sense imo.

Deja Vu was in Psyclone Bay and yes it is pretty far from Log Jammers old spot
galindoverhere the coaster starting out in the back of the park working it's way to the front is also something I've been hearing and would make more sense with a name like Full Throttle.

Well, DeJa Vu was pretty much the only ride left in Psyclone Bay, but here is what I think:
Green: Station
Red: Track
Black lines: Tunnels
Blue Box: Crazy elements (Plus what may be used for the Metro Tunnel)
Brown Box: Something MAY happen here.... I just don't know what...

If your red line is an idea for coaster track, that's a wide area for anything to happen. I just don't see anything spread out that far, maybe on both sides of the mountain utilizing the Metro tunnel and up over the mountain. I wouldn't rule out for a station being over in the Movie District if Log Jammer's old station isn't used though.

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
I've been to SFMM 3 times over 20 years, and after spending 20 minutes looking at the park's web site map, I'm still struggling to picture the park in my head, so bear with me.
With Deja Vue gone, having the station at the very back of the park makes sense as a draw. I really liked your illustration on the park map Galindoverhere, but I think there isn't a snowball's chance in hell this ride will have multiple tunnels under ground. I do think it will use the old metro tunnel, just not sure of the direction.
So, what if the DV area was used for the station, and the LJ section used for the bulk of the ride (twisties, loops, ect). Is that possible?

I just can't see that happening, there are too many other obstacles in the way (other coasters, Jet Stream, etc). Did anyone think of pulling up Bing aerial maps to check out the actual park from above to get a better perspective?

I didn't but just did. I used Google maps and was really surprised how clear the pictures were. Great idea, thanks.
So now that I've looked at real pictures of the park, I understand your POV about the obstacles, but clearly there is enough space between the areas to overcome them, especially if this is an Intamin that uses minimal supports.

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
My idea for LJ's station (if it were to be used) is really weird... A few problems I'm noticing is if LJ's station will be used again are these:
(1) The queue, there's not much room to be packed by LJ's station in case this ride will have a 2 hour wait, and I don't see how so much can pack in that little area
(2) The station itself, is really small inside, will there be a possibility it may be expanded?
This is why I drew my idea on what would happen if DeJa Vu's old spot were used for the station, queue, ect. because it made a lot more sense to me than if it were to be in LJ's old spot....

I'm so glad SFMM is improving their park, the best they've done in a while actually, I mean just look at how they resurfaced their parking lot, and fixing tons of buildings around the park... Way to go SFMM!

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
Not to crush peoples hopes, but I doubt they will use the DV lot. They have made absolutely no changes since the ride removal. PLus, it's REALLY far away from the LG lot
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
I agree with Knotts. There just isn't a good one to connect both sites considering the amount of obstacles in the way and distance-wise. The only way I could see anything happening between the two sites would have to be a giga and I just don't see that happening either. Definitely a launch here either using Log Jammer's station or from a spot on the other side of the mountain and utilizing Metro's old tunnel for a launch point.

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
I really wish I could have gotten a shot of the LG space at an angle the Coaster Guy hasn't. The whole area is much deeper than one would think and I think a great coaster could fit in there alone. It will be launch, but I don't think giga will work too. We don't have room for an I305 sized coaster
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
I've never once thought that it would go from Deja Vu to LJ, when I said I heard it may actually start from the back of the park I was meaning it as in the backside of the mountain.
It they have plans for a 6000+ foot long coaster then a I305 sized coaster would have no problem fitting in there it's all about how it's designed. Of course an exact clone of i305 wouldn't fit there it wasn't designed to go on both sides of a mountain

Yeah that is true.
Knowing SFMM they will be more worried about inversions I think
I wish they would make another B&M launch like Incredible Hulk @ Universal IOA!

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
Yes Robert, those were my thoughts as well. This whole starting over where Deja Vu was is total nonsense. Not to say they won't put another coaster in Deja Vu's old spot.
As far as a giga goes, I only brought that up basically because I thought that would only be the option if it were to start at Deja Vu's spot and travel over to Jammer's area, but even then I knew that wouldn't be happening. Like I've said before, too many obstacles.

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
Well, I think it's interesting they cleared two spots and one tunnel. Using the DV spot for a station and queue makes sense for a world record breaker, because it's at the back of the park and would be a great draw. It's clear there is more than enough space in the LJ spot to have just about any combination of elements the park could want. Given all the manufacturers are using minimum supports now, I believe any obstacle can be worked around. (After seeing the installation of Tatsu, I think MM can walk on water.) I'll be the first admit I could certainly be wrong, but when I look at most of MM's coasters since Revolution, they do seem to like them spread out around the park. Starting work this early also indicates this will be a big project regardless.
Has anyone considered a coaster like Takabisha?

^^^But the Deja Vu lot isn't cleared. Deja Vu was literally the only thing removed. Lights, queue, footers, signs etc are all still there. I'm calling this coaster will be more of a one-place coaster, like Scream, Riddler's, Batman, Viper, or X2.
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
Knotts, clearing the remaining elements within the Deja Vu location is easy, so that may be planned later. Is the spot large enough to host a complete coaster?

Interesting, thanks for the quick response. Could a launch coaster with 150 foot loop fit? I always thought the space was kinda tight for anything of any size or a wold record holder. Of course, if it stays within that space, then that would throw out the entire tunnel rumor.

Well, it's possible for a 150 foot. loop to fit, but I don't see how enough track can fit to reach the speed needed... some of my friends are saying, what is it's a non-vertical loop? Intamin is rumored to make this massive coaster, and they aren't known that much for vertical loops... but who knows, because there aren't any limits to roller coasters!

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
Well, this was my point from looking at the map and remembering the space. If you can't get the speed within the space, then reaching 150 feet is next to impossible weather it be vertical or not. Of course they could expand beyond the space, but it certainly is ideal for a station, large queue, and launch (imho).

You're singing to me Chicken and with ya 100%. The SF promo this year is "Think Big" so a large ride at SFMM makes perfect sense. I also think that SFMM is too loop heavy and really could use a giga airtime machine - maybe throw in one world record loop like Revolution, but more air than loops would be sweet imho.

Yes, think about it this way, SFMM had 35 inversions (with Deja Vu) and the only park to come close is Thorpe Park with 22 (mostly because they have Colossus), so yeah, I believe we are in store for something new and different, also known as AIRTIME!

Oh believe me, I know! And yet they "release" a rumor of the world's largest loop? (go figure) SFMM is known for "new and different" so I don't doubt they will continue to deliver, and hope that includes some MAJOR airtime, cause that is something SFMM sorely misses imho.

Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
hey sorry it's kinda late.
Your right about DV but I can almost assure you they won't use it for the LJ coaster.
IN the DV spot, it has to be something pretty small. Behind Apocalypse is a boneyard so it may be preserved and not used. SFMM is so short on flats I'm hoping they use the area for a legit flat, like a Topspin or something.
Since this is basically a future SF construction thread, we can also note Tidal Wave. It just got major rehab so it will run for at least a year or two. But that ride isn't very busy and has been there for 23 years...

We can talk anything in the future for SFMM here. Would a "Top Spin" at the former DV site draw? Maybe? Would a flat or two be better in the Tidal Wave area? I live in Boston and have only been to the park 4 times. What I do know is they like to do things big, and hope they continue that tradition

Also how about a Huss Frisbee? Those are pretty large. That and a Top Spin, like you've previously mentioned, would do wonders for this park.

A top spin would fit great in the DC Universe section, and like Rip Tide at KBF, it should have water being sprayed at people while it spins, and therefore, call it "Aquaman" Just a small idea..... SkyScreamer could also replace Thrill Shot, but that's on my list on flats that might now happen

Thanks for sharing. Park maps are so unreliable and frequently inaccurate, I don't know what to make of it. I look at the DV and LG locations and realize how far apart they are, but then I look at Google Earth and think it's all possible. I'll rely on you guys out West to guide me - I just like to think "Big"

Lol. Well for the "think big" since X2 that's all SFMM has thought. We seriously lack flats. So here's my two cents in response to ideas brought up: A Topspin in the DV area seems to fit very well to me. Considering the area is "Cyclone Bay" they could definitely add some sort of water theme instead of Aquaman, and not have to deal with the money etc. for licensing. The DV could be a small coaster or two flats. I'll post picture proof in a sec. A frisbee would fit very well into the Tidal Wave spot (IF REMOVED) and maybe another flat or two. I also thing they should make Pistachio Park into a flat again. The Thrill Shit area is not big enough for a Skyscreamer, SFMM really doesn't need one, and they could fit some sort of small flat there. To me, the LG coaster is thinking big enough.
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
So there's Deja Vu, and see that little lot right under it? Originally planned for Road Runner Express, it could host another flat or be very useful for a coaster!
Re: 2013 - 2014, What's in store?
That's enough room to fit two flats! With Deja Vu gone, at least THREE could fit! But have any of you noticed this: They're making more room by emptying lots, taking down trees, plants etc. (and I'm not just talking about the LJ area).... could this has something to do with 2014...?

I didn't realize that the park was in that desperate need of flats. It would be nice for them to get some more, no doubt. A Huss Top Spin, Frisbee and Troika would all do wonders for them.

A few problems SFMM is having are these:
(1) The lack of flats. Their only flats are the ones they got when MM barely opened...
(2) Family/Kid attractions/rides. Maybe one day SFMM will expand their Bugs Bunny World, or make a smaller kiddie world somewhere inside SFMM....
I hope this problem gets fixed later in the future, because it would make SFMM the park I loved and cherished, a great place once again!
