Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Yes I agree with the whole So. Cal needs good water rides, the only reason I bring up the PP removal is b/c that's what the little birdies in the park were chirping way back when the Giga rumor first started.
Also it makes sense since they dispatch what seams like one boat per hour, and I've heard it was a maintenance headache so I guess will see what happens.

How do we know for certain that Perilous Plunge is coming out? Has anyone who works there confirmed it?

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Cedar Fair certainly has had it's fair share of issues with Intamin products including PP. I don't think there are any "rumors" of PP going away, and even if it did, I can't believe a Southern CA park would replace it with a coaster and not another water ride.

Wasn't Perilous Plunge the ride that stole Tidal Force's claim as the tallest water ride in the world?

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Tom well SFMM did just remove their largest water ride supposedly in favor of a coaster. So I don't think it would be that crazy for Knotts to do the same for a water ride that has a history of being a problem ride. Both parks have other water rides, then each park has it's own water park right next to door so it's not like either park will not have options to cool down.
Far as there not being rumors well I do know it was mentioned on Westcoaster a few times and I had heard the rumor with my own ears from employees at the Park.
Walt no there was never anything confirmed far as I know about PP being removed just rumors and we all know how those go. Also you sir are correct I do believe PP took Tidal Force's claim as tallest water ride.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Here's why I think PP could come out:
-horrible capacity
-apparently a maintenance nightmare
-Knott's has Bigfood Rapids and Timber Mountain.
-While Bigfoot is not only plenty of soak for one ride, PP gets you BEYOND soaked. IMO, it's not even enjoyable because in 90+ degree weather your still soaked most of the day.
PP would make an awesome area for a queue and station.
Robjob I couldn't agree more! They are already extremely family and tradition oriented. Basically one more coaster would not hurt them.
Conclusion: While they have a good amount of coaster now, a hyper/giga would make Knott's have an attracting coaster, while keeping the area family oriented and traditional.
Couldn't you see another coaster on that skyline....?

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Well you both sold me, since I could easily see a new coaster in that horizon. Since you're both in the market, have either of you seen any markings in the park? If they are announcing a coaster this month, there should be some marking if it's going to open in January.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Tom I don't know about January It took HP 9 months from announcement to testing for something the size of Skyrush, Knotts doesn't have a creek to worry about but they do have plenty of obstacles to work around so I think January would be pushing it imo. I could see a March/April opening though, especially since SFMM probably won't get Full throttle opened until Jun or July since that seams to be their new trend.
I haven't been to Knotts since Scary Farm so I don't know if any new markers have shown up beside the survey markers that were put out sometime last year that gave fire to the Giga rumor.
Also Knottsnetwork you are so right on about the wetness level of this ride I've ridden it once when it was being ran like Intamin intended it to before the accident, yes the drop was amazing but I didn't like being drowned at the bottom of it lol and the thing missing in that skyline is a Intamin that resembles Skyrush hyper or giga

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
I think a 250 ft Intamin airtime machine would be perfect there
But explain to me how you get that soaked, because based off of this, i'd say you get more soaked on tidal force at HP:

Oh I agree - 300 would even be better - but I think it will be B&M for Knotts - especially after CW.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Tom... Noooooooooooooooooo B&M lol j/k. At this point I wouldn't be to mad at Knotts if they went will a B&M, I just want a hyper or Giga with some decent airtime on the Westcoast for god's sake!!!
That was taken after the accidents before the accidents it was like a tidal wave literally, there has been two incidents on Plunge the one the killed the women and then one that sent a boat flying off it's track during testing no people on board. Since then the boat goes slower around the turn the water level was lowered and the trims at the bottom of the drop are on permanently.

B&M still doesn't know how to work airtime at 250-300 ft

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Oh I hear ya Robb, and agree. However, I see with the addition of Leviathan, CF migrating from amazing thrills to reliable thrills with B&M. I agree B&M still hasn't mastered amazing airtime, but they did deliver a GREAT ride with good air with Nitro, and don't think a clone would disappoint on the West Coast. Having ridden all the West Coast coasters, a Nitro clone would be a good competitive advantage for Knotts, though the GP may perceive it as being very similar to Goliath (but much better). I can't wait to hear the official word, and as you'd suspect, I will certainly have an opinion for what it is worth.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Honestly, they could go with B&M or Intamin. I305 and Leviathan were both built the past two years by Cedar Fair, and I'd be content with either, but of course I'd prefer Intamin.
Also for space, it's been talked about so much, but I think they should get rid of Boomerang before PP. But hey, it doesn't really matter, I just want a new coaster.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
^^The problem is, nitro was built 11 years ago, and B&M doesn't build quite like that anymore, the best airtime on B&Ms is on some of the older ones like Nitro. They're coasters' hills don't have enough of an apex anymore to provide anything more than light floater air. If you want stronger floater/ejector airtime, Intamin seems to do that better as of late.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Okay another 2 cents from me concerning what's come up since my last post :p
So concerning markers, I did not visit in that time, but I have heard reports that a while ago Knott's had markers up in about half the park. If anyone has more detail, this would be great because it was either for the construction they've been doing, or probably for a big coaster if it took half the park.
Perilous Plunge lost it's thrill with adding OTSR's. Also, you still get sopping wet when a wave hits you after the initial drop. You are gliding in mist.... then BOOM!
I would love a Levi in SoCal, but Knott's would need a LOT of time to plan out exactly where the coaster would go. With a lot of work, the could squeeze something in

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
I do remember Knotts having stakes throughout the park, and understand billybob's point about older B&Ms. Behemouth at CW is pretty good, but not as good as Nitro, so it was a very good point.
It appears Knotts will have a new coaster in 2013, and we should know it's details soon.

Something similar to shambala but with tighter apexes on the hills would be awesome at Knotts

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
Here is the map with the marker locations that Jim Disney from Westcoaster created sometime ago. My money is on an Intamin since I've heard that I305 and it's lifthill was designed for Knotts until something changed and it was sent to KD. You have to think a lifthill like I305/Skyrush would cause the least disruption in a park like Knotts.

I agree Robert, however the new B&M giga lift is very similar and could be the reason they built it to accommodate Knotts.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
I guess that would make sense considering how I-305/Skyrush only have two towers supporting the lift. All that space can be used considering how such a ride would be crammed in amongst other attractions. I can't believe they would've originally proposed I-305 for Knotts though considering its height, but I could definitely see something similar, but more the height of Skyrush, coming in.

Re: Knotts next coaster ?
I'm guessing if KBF wanted a new coaster, they could make it leave the park and come back, just like Ghost Rider.... KBF has A TON of space across their streets to do so. They just need permits.
I don't believe a park EVER needs room top make a coaster, they could always just cram it in, make room, remove an attraction, etc.
I mean just look at Tatsu at SFMM, who knew such an awesome / large coaster could fit on that hill?
