Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
I suspect this may be Roller Soaker's last year. So, that would drop HP's coaster count down to 11. I don't think they would want the count to DROP. So, when Roller Soaker does go off into the list of defunct rides, HP will likely replace it with a water coaster, but I would also suspect another small coaster in the park would also be added the same year so the count does go up. But I do believe Roller Soaker's last season might be 2012. If not, 2013 definitely.

Can I ask if there is anything in particular that makes you say Roller Soaker will be leaving so soon? I know that it has capacity issues, and lord knows it is not the most exciting ride out there. But is there more to it than that?

One is that it has reliability issues. The other is that Setpoint Inc part of coaster manufacturing may be out of business (they still have their automated manufacturing part of the business). I beleive the Roller Soaker is the last remaining Super Saturator coaster still operating today. The one at Carowinds was removed in 2008. If parts are hard to come by, then Hersheypark may remove the ride. The Giant Wheel suffered the same fate.

Thanks for the info RCoaster! I did not realize that Roller Soaker was the last of its kind! I would be thrilled if they replaced it! I think I've ridden it twice since it was first installed lol.

The only way I would want it to go is if they would replace it the year they would destroy it. I so badly do not want the coaster count to go down.

Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
You know I was thinking with this whole RollerSoaker thing.
Does anybody think that one of those water coasters like described here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_slide#Water_coaster
That way Hershey can still have '12' coasters, and the replacement for RollerSoaker is still a very unique coaster that involves water and still blends very well with the Boardwalk theme.
Also if the Boardwalk is going to push more on the limits of Midway America, I would change Midway America into a Beachside Carnival theme to blend the two more together and it allows for Boardwalk to expand into that free area without hurting the theming of another area.

Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
Although I have never been on a water coaster I think they seem like a blast! I think this is an awesome idea for a Roller Soaker replacement. It makes sense too seeing as they would still be able to keep the same number of water rides and coasters while replacing a currently defunct ride.
I do think that this would have a hefty price tag though and probably not likely for next year with skyrush coming this year. But definitely an awesome idea!
Also I know that space is obviously an issue but it would be great if we could add rides instead of replacing existing ones all the time.

Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
The water coaster description you linked to is just a water slide, not a coaster. A water coaster that would count as a coaster would be like the Mack Water Coaster or the new Intamin Water Coaster, not the Slide "Water Coaster"

I hope none of Hershey's woodies receive the "Iron Horse Treatment". They would look aweful.

Just wondering why it would be so bad for hershey's count to go down. There are pretty much only two parks that worry about their counts: SF:MM and Cedar Point. At the end of the day its not how many coasters you have, but the profit you generate.
Also if they were to remove roller soaker i think that they would replace it with more water slides as the boardwalk is really lacking in a variety of slides (maybe one of the mat racers?).

Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
^I think Hersheypark does care, they just don't put it out there that they count. Between that and the lack of 'thrill flats' they need to keep the coaster count up.
The only one I could ever see getting the iron horse treatment is Wildcat. Only woodie that really rough and could use some smoothing out. Then again if that does happen I don't see it happening for at least 5-10 years from now.

Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
^I agree they have to keep their thrill ride/coaster count up, but roller soaker isnt thrilling in any way. So I guess wha i was trying to say is that the removal of roller soaker wouldnt completely ruin the coaster line up.
Also with wildcat receiving new trains in 2007 (correct me if I'm wrong), I think hershey would have GCI completely retrack the ride before they invested in the iron horse. And wildcat is still a pretty fun ride if you sit near the front.

Roller Soaker is a great thing with The Boardwalk. Wildcat is a great mind IMO. And I can't help but wonder if Comet may be getting Mellinium Flyer's like Wildcat did back in 07'.

I just brought up Wildcat for if if any hershey woodie were to get it. I think I just hated the old restraints on Wildcat. And now when I ride it, it just happens to be the 'wrong' time of day when the heat is getting to me.
And Brandon, I personally think Comet would look great with Lightning Racers trains. They just have a great old time look to them.

Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
I agree, I'd hope Comet will eventually get them. If you think about it, Great Bear will be due for new trains in a few years too. But Comet IMO needs them more. The current trains run good still, but updates are nice.
Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
^^Yeah I agree its not the best ride for the heat when you already have a headache.
^I dont see great bear getting new trains unless B&M comes out with a new design which seems very unlike them.

That's true. I forgot B&M doesn't have any new train designs.
Re: Hersheypark 2013 Speculation Thread
Yeah, we'll always continue to have those classy B&M trains unless a new design is released for Bear.
I am very happy that Sidewinder got the new Vekoma rolling stock. I don't know how many times I've ridden it last year when prior to that, I wouldn't ride it at all.

I would like to see HP add a 250 to 300 foot Star Flyer in 2013. It's to bad SF is already using this name b/c it could of been named Sky Screamer...Skyrush Sky Screamer get it lol

^Perfect
Also while were on Flats do any of you think that new Ninja Turtle thing the MOA just opened would be something you'd like to see at HP? of course with a different theme lol. I've seen some vids on youtube with people that know how to make them flip like crazy, looks like it can be an insane ride if you know what your doing.

^those rides look like a lot of fun and would fit great in midway america, but really i would be happy with any new thrill rides (especially a drop tower) as they're really lacking in the thrill ride category.

Intamin Drop Tower, Chance Wipeout and a Huss Troika and Top Spin would do wonders for the place.

In the new proposed new expansion I would love to see a couple new coasters and one of them be maybe a b&m floorless coaster or just any b&m coaster like that.

here is what i think Hershey should do in 2013, i think they should get rid of roller soaker and in that area build a "tube coaster" kind of like "crush 'n' gusher" at typhoon lagoon.

I think the first coaster they build in the expansion area should be a wooden since it's been about 10 years since lightning racer and they take up a lot of space. If they build it as one of the first things in the area then they have more options/ possibilities and less restrictions.

Honestly nobody really knows exactly when the new expansion will be built. I would like hershey park to open three new coasters and it open in 2015. "15th coaster opens at Hershey park 2015!"X24J wrote:When will the new area open?

I really doubt that would ever happen but it doesn't hurt to dream lol. This Park Blvd realignment project will probably take some time going through all the processes and stages needed until they can actually begin work on moving the road. I'd say there won't be any further development in that direction until at least 2015.

How large of an expansion are we talking? I know I saw pictures before but I can't remember.
