SooperDooperLooper's new trains
While everyone (and myself) are focusing on Skyrush at Hershey, I just remembered that SDL (SooperDooperLooper) is getting new trains! I didn't know if anyone already made a thread to talk about it, so I just did. I think it is interesting SDL is getting new trains and im excited about Skyrush and SDL's new trains!
Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
I agree about the lap bars as well. OTSR's would definitely kill the ride experience.

SooperDooperLooper's new trains
I don't know what to say or even think about the new trains...all I can say is the lapbar kinda liked, the one thing that I didn't like about the lapbar was if you had a phone case, the bar and G-Forces on the ride would try and take it off my belt loop.

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
Hersheypark wanted to update their classic Schwarzkopf coaster, 1977’s “SooperDooperLooper” with new trains. Gerstlauer has designed a new roller coaster vehicle that offers updated comfort, but retained the classic lap bar-style restraint. With a 42-inch height requirement the “SooperDooper”looper” is an attraction that many kids along the Eastern Seaboard ride as their first looping coaster. Upgrades like this one allow this steel coaster to continue to thrill families for decades to come and Gerstlauer is excited to be providing trains for this seventies classic.
Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
Have the modifications been made and does any one know if the traine are there. Also what did they do with the old trains

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
The modifications are in the process of being made. It is unknown if the trains are there yet. The old trains i'm guessing will be scrapped in a year or two.
Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
How many new trains is SDL receiving? one? Two? Three? And does anyone know what they will look like?
Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
Thanks I would hope that they would keep any parts that would work on the new trains but I don't think they will need to or able to. Or they should find a park that has the same trains and sell them as parts or something like that

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
I would also think two. The ride originally opened with three trains but then they only went to a two-train operation with the third being used as spare parts. So I would also think it would probably make sense to go with two trains.

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
Yeah I only think they will get two trains b/c there is rarely a long line and parts will be a lot easier to get. Also most of the time they can't get the train loaded before the other train hits the breaks
Also one year did looper have seatbelts or am I thinking of anther ride that had them then got rid of them?

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
I don't know about how hard it was to find or get parts for the old trains but I thought they ran fine but needed magnetic breaks. But hey new trains+new mag. breaks could be more cost effective for the park b/c they can replace parts and make modifications . Hopefully this means SDL will be here for a long time

I'm glad Gerstlauer did a good job on these Schwarzkopf trains. I just hope Revolution (SFMM) will get the Gerstlauer "Schwarzkopf trains".

I would think two. Looper used to run 3, but it was determined unsafe.
Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains

How would it have been unsafe? Didn't they have computer systems that controlled when the trains could be dispatched.also over the past few years they really haven't had much of a line the two or three times a year when I went, I don't know about other times though.

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
So, since it is getting new trains do they have to do the same extensive testing a new coaster has or do all coasters go through the same test year after year

I would think so.
Since it's also getting a new lift chain and brakes.

Is looper opening with the park this year or later like skyrush?

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
It's not supposed to be open for Springtime in the Park. I'd suspect May 4th.
Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
I guess that makes sense b/c I have not heard about them being there yet, and they probably will need a few days to a week or so to test and to make adjustments. We will just have to wait and see

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
Okay, Matt Walborn on the Project 2012 group confirmed to me that Looper's new trains were delivered to the park on Thursday. I'm not sure what source he got this info, but we shall see when they are finally placed on the track.

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
I strongly suspect these are NOT Looper's new trains. Maybe they may look like this a bit, but Looper's new trains are going to be blue.
Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
Yes, you are correct, sorry I forgot to put that those trains were an EXAMPLE of what the new trains might look like... sorry for any confusion

Ours will probably look exactly the same as what's in the pic but with a color scheme as similar to the old trains.

Very cool! I thought it was nice they are the retro - orange!

Why would they repaint looper the same color but get the trains a different color?

Those trains are cool I suppose with the new navy blue themed track, but I really would of loved to see them use the same colors as the past trains.

Actually I just thought of something... On gerstlaur's site it said it was SDL's 35th anniversary, and someone said its like a throwback. Maybe they are like this for the year then over the winter when they get repainted and decaled they will go back to blue?

Re: SooperDooperLooper's new trains
Did anyone see this:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Restore-Revolution/388480361172971
This classic is overdo for a total refurb - mainly new lap bar trains. A couple people found out the "California State law" thing for keeping the shoulder bars on are bogus. Must have been SFMM just saying that to people to shut them up.
Revolution deserves all the TLC that Sooperdooperlooper is getting!
On a side note: I've heard a couple times over the years that Sooperdooperlooper was supposed to be much longer (similar to Revolution), with drops before the loop and such. In order to get the ride open quicker, they went went a shorter (quicker to manufacture and construct) layout. I sure would like to see the original plans!
