If you haven't seen this video of the Topping Off of Skyrush - this is well worth your time. A truly amazing video showing off the work of the Iron Workers as they build Hershey's new amazing ride.

^ I wonder where that guy was standing because it looked it was near where Walt and I were at. Wouldn't shock me if it was him though.
But anyways, I'll be back over getting bi-daily updates on Monday. Should be interesting to see what's happened over a week's time.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
Yeah, there's just a little bit more footer construction at the far end, and once those set, we'll see everything installed!
I'm mostly excited to see the creek finally run back through and to see new landscaping get in. It's looking less and less like a construction site every time I see it.

The creek is beginning to look more like the creek again with the walls up and everything not being so dug up as was before. Wonder when the fountain will be installed?

I just got back from getting my season passes and It looked like there were about 3-4 pieces in that place across from the parking lot. I would have gotten pics but my camera was dead. It looked like all the footers were poured too and a couple flat rides were testing(good sign of spring time in the park getting closer )

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
I am pretty sure that I have said this before but, wow this has come along way from just land clearing and footers. The construction workers have overcome multiple floods, storms, high winds, and the crazy weather patterns (snow one day then the next day sunny with almost spring like temps). Even though progress was slow some weeks, when you think about where they are working and the surroundings ( such as comet) it is better than them moving through it too fast and not secure a piece right then it fall on the comet or someone.

I read this....and now I want to know what the other three proposals were. Just out of curiosity of what could have been. And where it would have been. Leave it to the press to pick quite possibly the most boring proposal to put in.

Just finished reading it - thanks for posting Kirk! The one proposal sounds almost like the "Big Spin" rides at the Six Flags parks but it would've been built in Tower Plaza instead. Not too sure how well that would've looked unless they would've waited until the Rte 743 realignment was completed. I think Skyrush was probably the best one, no doubt.

What is happening with the Route 743 realignment? Will this affect or change the park's boundaries at all? I'm just confused as to how an addition in the Kissing Tower area would look better after the road realignment? Sorry if this is common knowledge or has already been discussed but I'm not as up to date as I would like to be with all things Hershey lol.

Yeah, that's mostly likely what they were doing. Now's also the time where they'll start installing the trains on the coasters, as well as begin testing some of the other rides. They have been having the most excellent weather conditions lately to get everything done.
By the way, GREAT pics!

Do great bears trains get taken off or do they keep them in their storage track/ building and work on them there?

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
Some of the coasters have "mini service centers" located right at the ride. As far as I know, Soaker and Bear both have them at the ride(s). So yeah, Bear's trains would be taken apart and worked on right there at the ride site instead of being transported over to the main service center.

Cedar Point takes off their Raptor cars during the winter. I don't think that is an issue. Bear doesn't need new trains, IMO. The ride isn't rough.Hershey bears wrote:Yeah that makes sense b/c they are inverted and it would be a lot harder to get them off them get them back on.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
Parks take their trains off the track and into storage to keep them out of the elements, and also to take the load off the wheels. If left on the track too long, they can develop flat spots and would result in a rough ride. B&M's storage tracks are designed in such a way that while the train is stored, there is no load on the wheels. If you look at the end of a B&M Inverted car, you will see 2 small wheels. These wheels (with another set at the other side) support the entire car inside the storage bay. There is no actual track inside the storage bay.

Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
This is the Hershey Press Building, it has some EXCELLENT restaurants, and offices.
The Hershey Press Building and Kissing Tower.
Great Bear's lift
Skyrush!
The decorative stonework here needs to be finished before the track can be completed. And the stonework is almost complete. This is all that remains, about 15 feet or so.
Beautiful ride!
New wood being installed.
This is ALL the remaining track left to install on this soon to be, world class coaster.
Not much left to go...
The creek is slowly being allowed to flow through again.
Keep in mind there is going to be a new path entrance RIGHT there! WOW! It's going to be SO close to that soaring winged train!
The creek is slowly coming back to life. It's going to be amazing flying over the creek!
The creek is now slightly flowing through the other side.
Electrical house
Quite a bit of station work going on. The plastic has been taken off, siding has been started, and the stairs have started. The station really is FLYING.
Re: Skyrush Official Discussion Thread
AWESOME update! You're right that they're flying with the station. Won't be too much longer until we're back in there and can see most of this up close.
By the way, the second and third floors of the Press Building are where HERCO's corporate offices are located.
